SMG MANAGED CARLSON CENTER AND UAF PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR HOCKEY WEEK IN FAIRBANKS

Alaska Hockey

8TH grade and under free, food and drink specials, youth hockey and special prizes all featured for this rivalry weekend series.

Fairbanks, AK, February 7, 2019 – In recognition of Hockey Week in Fairbanks and due to the recent success of Nanooks Hockey (8-11-1 in conference), winners of 4 of last 5 games, SMG at the Carlson Center is giving everyone a reason to get out for some rivalry hockey this weekend and support your local Division I team.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks and University of Alaska Anchorage will meet on the ice this Friday and Saturday night in Fairbanks for the first two installments of the 2019 Governor’s Cup. UAF has a lengthy streak owning the cup, but needs your support to keep that going.

“The support is huge,” said Nanooks Head Coach Erik Largen, “It’s a big rivalry between our communities and universities. The team gets really motivated when there are fans in the stands cheering for their guys. We’re looking forward to having huge support this weekend.”

If you need more than rivalry hockey to get the family excited this weekend, the Carlson Center is offering so much more. For all 8th grade and under students, UAF will be giving one free ticket with one paid adult ticket.

Additionally, the Carlson Center is offering a great deal on food and beverage. All concession stands will offer a pound of buffalo style chicken wings for $5, including ranch or blue cheese dressing with celery and carrots. You have two options: the mild (Nanook Blue) or the hot (Nanook Gold). And for those of the proper age sitting on the ‘wet’ side of the arena, Coors Light pints will be on sale for $4 apiece.

A wing eating contest will take place on the ice during the 1st intermission on Friday night. A youth hockey game will take place during the 1st intermission on Saturday night.

Additionally, mascots including a Chicken hawking beer and a Yeti will be on hand along with Nook Bear to take photos with the fans. If you upload those photos to social media, tag or check in to the Carlson Center, you’ll be given a chance to win tickets to the upcoming Gabriel Iglesias and Paw Patrol shows coming to the Carlson Center this summer. See the Carlson Center’s Facebook page for more details.

Advance tickets are available at UAF inside the Patty Center and at the Carlson Center Main Box Office, online at ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
